Subaru Safety Ratings 2024
Despite tougher criteria, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has named four Subaru vehicles for safety awards. In the 2024 safety awards, the 2024 Subaru Ascent was named the 2024 Top Safety Pick+ award category winner. This year's achievement means the 2024 Subaru ascent has been in the TSP for seven consecutive years. Similarly, the 2024 Subaru Impreza is listed as a TSP winner for the 17th consecutive year, the 2024 Subaru Outback for the 16th consecutive year, and the 2024 Subaru Solterra for the second consecutive year. These announcements mean Subaru now has more IIHS Top Safety Pick+ awards than any other vehicle since 2013.Â
All four listed Subaru vehicles performed excellently in the IIHS new safety criteria to become the winners in these categories. Don't miss out on Subaru's amazing offerings. Visit Subaru Sherman Oaks today, a trusted Subaru dealership near Los Angeles, CA.Â
What's New For the 2024 IIHS Safety Awards CriteriaÂ
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) modified the criteria for the 2024 awards by introducing new requirements for pedestrian crash prevention systems, side impact protection, and moderate front overlap tests. These new requirements ensured that all winners are true standouts when offering the highest level of protection for drivers, other vehicle occupants, and vulnerable road users. The new version of the award system now replaces the older daytime and nighttime tests with a single evaluation.Â
Also, unlike previous years, vehicles need an "acceptable" or "good" rating in the updated evaluation. This updated evaluation ensures and emphasizes backseat safety. It uses a dummy behind the driver to ensure every vehicle occupant, particularly those in the backseat, is equally safe.Â
A vehicle must offer good protection in a small overlap front crash, in which 25% of the vehicle's width on either side collides with another vehicle or a stationary object, to earn any of the two awards. This year, the driver-side and passenger-side evaluations are now combined into a single rating. The test is carried out on both the driver and passenger sides, and the rating is equivalent to the lower of the two results. Similarly, award winners must also have "good" or "acceptable" headlights equipped on all trim levels.

The 2024 Subaru IIHS Safety Awards did not happen by accident. They are evidence of the brand's commitment to ensuring safety for all vehicle occupants and vulnerable road users in all its vars and SUVs. It's time to hit the road with maximum confidence.
