With the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) annually conducting tests for pedestrian crash avoidance simulations, the 2019 Subaru Forester and its Subaru EyeSight technology - among several SUVs across the marketplace - entered this arena for objective judgment. And here at Subaru Sherman Oaks, our team is happy to reveal that the 2019 Subaru Forester earned a Superior Rating in IIHS Pedestrian Crash Avoidance Technology testing, one of just few vehicles to receive these distinguished marks.
IIHS pedestrian detection systems record vehicle technology responses to three situations - a pedestrian standing on the edge of the road and stepping into the travel lane, a child darting out behind two parked cars, and a pedestrian walking in the same direction of a vehicle along the road's edge - and records scores for how this technology fares. Effective forward sensors, much like the indicators on Subaru EyeSight-equipped models, should intuitively provide audible and visual warnings before applying automatic brakes if no response is detected. While the 2019 Subaru Forester registered impressive response metrics in this area, other SUVs didn't fare as well during technology testing.
